Harnessing Mobile and Wearable Data for Personalized Health Insights
As mobile and wearable devices increasingly capture real-time health data, they offer unprecedented opportunities to transform healthcare through personalized insights. This talk explores how modeling biobehavioral data from smartphones, fitness trackers, and similar technologies can detect and predict health status and support tailored interventions. Dr. Doryab will discuss methods and challenges for collecting, processing, and modeling data on physiological and behavioral patterns as well as strategies to leverage those models for targeted intervention. Through case studies and recent findings, she will illustrate how this approach brings us closer to a proactive, individualized healthcare model that realizes the promise of precision health.
Afsaneh Doryab is an Assistant Professor of Systems Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Virginia. Her research lies at the intersection of Ubiquitous Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, and Digital Health. Dr. Doryab focuses on developing computational models of human behavior using data from mobile, wearable, and embedded sensors. She has received support from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, and her work has been published in esteemed computer science, engineering, and health venues such as ACM, IEEE, and JMIR.
